For beating and strangling Wendy Knell, 25, and Caroline Pierce, 20, to death in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, in 1987 before sexually abusing them, David Fuller, then 68, is already serving a life sentence. In the now-defunct Kent and Sussex Hospital and the Tunbridge Wells Hospital in Pembury, where he had worked since 1989, the electrician recorded himself abusing corpses. He entered a plea of guilty to the two murders and 44 charges involving 78 victims at the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust between November 2008 and 2020. He acknowledged sexually abusing 23 more dead women last month.

Libby Clark from the Crown Prosecution Service said previously: “Fuller’s actions were depraved, disgusting and dehumanising – on a scale that has never been encountered before in legal history.

“It was vital for us to bring these additional charges for the women we could identify, and those we sadly couldn’t, to reflect his offending and bring justice for the families that we can.

“The horrors of this case will no doubt remain with everyone who has worked so tirelessly to bring the case to a close.”

Wednesday, Mrs. Justice Cheema-Grubb will sentence Fuller for the most recent allegations against him at the Old Bailey. Following new analysis of decades-old DNA evidence, the Government has established an independent review into how Fuller evaded capture until he was apprehended for what have been nicknamed the "bedsit murders" on December 3, 2020. On June 23, 1987, Ms. Knell was discovered dead in her Guildford Road apartment, while Ms. Pierce was kidnapped on November 24, 1987, in front of her Grosvenor Park home, and her naked body was found in a water-filled dike near St. Mary in the Marsh five months later. During a search of Fuller's three-bedroom semi-detached house in Heathfield, East Sussex, where he resided with his family, police found a collection of pictures showing him abusing corpses. A 9-year-old girl, two 16-year-olds, and an elderly woman of 100 years were among the victims. The following year, a report on the hospital trust is anticipated to be released. More than 90 family members whose loved ones were profaned by Fuller will receive compensation of up to £25,000, it was revealed last month.
