Who is Ilana Rubel? Policymaker warns of 'collapsing enrollment' for University of Idaho unless murders are solved

Police are at a stalemate in their efforts to solve the killings of the University of Idaho students because they have not yet located a lead, a suspect, or a murder weapon. Officials have apparently been stumped by the incident because despite reviewing more than 2,000 tips and conducting multiple interviews, there have been no leads. A state lawmaker has warned the university about the dire repercussions it might experience if the murders of Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Maddie Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20, are not solved. The deaths of these four young people, all under the age of 21, remain unsolved. The fifty-year-old said to KHQ, "If they don't find the cause of it, it will turn into a catastrophe that only gets worse. There is the best buddy of my daughter. People I know do not want to return. Nobody wants to enroll their children in a school or community where they can encounter such trauma. Every parent and student's worst nightmare is about this situation. They must track down the offender." If the killer of the Idaho massacre was not apprehended, she thought it would negatively impact university enrollment.

Who is Ilana Rubel?Ilana Rubel

Rubel, a Georgetown University and Harvard Law School graduate, has been representing the District 18 area in south Boise as a Democrat in the Idaho House of Representatives since January 2014. She also serves as the House of Representatives' Minority Leader. When Rep. Mat Erpelding left in December 2019 to take a job with the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce, the 50-year-old politician ran for the office. She was appointed to the office by Governor Butch Otter and was formerly a partner at the legal firm Fenwick & West. Rubel allegedly said that the $1 million the state invested in the probe was essentially a "deal" and that he supported spending additional money if that was what was ultimately needed. She stated: "If necessary, that is. I am concerned for the safety of everyone in that community as well as the possibility of the University of Idaho. We must investigate that situation thoroughly." On the other side, the families of the victims are becoming agitated. According to Steven Goncalves, the father of Goncalves, it was concerning that several of the investigating officers at the crime site were in their mid-20s. They're just inexperienced, and I don't want anyone to make mistakes when it comes to my child, the man claimed. On Sunday, November 13, the four students were discovered brutally stabbed in a home on King Road. More than 2,600 email tips, more than 2,700 phone calls, and 1,084 submissions of digital media have been made to the Moscow police thus far. To top it off, 113 pieces of tangible evidence have been seized, and authorities have 4,000 photos of the crime scene and multiple three-dimensional scans of the house to investigate potential entry points.
