With Captain Marvel, the superhero origin story of Carol Danvers, Brie Larson made a dramatic entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2019. Unfortunately, despite grossing more than a billion dollars at the box office, neither critics nor viewers thought highly of the film. A sequel to Captain Marvel was inevitable, and in 2023, The Marvels will see Carol Danvers, played by Brie Larson, fighting alongside Monica Rambeau, played by Teyonah Parris. Kamala Khan, played by Iman Vellani. Larson has been considering her role in light of the ongoing criticism of Captain Marvel. Larson recently spoke about how the sequel to The Marvels will mark a turning point for her character at the D23 film festival. Why Critics Should Get Excited About Captain Marvel For Captain Marvel, a New Phase - In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter at D23, Brie Larson disclosed that viewers of The Marvels will observe "a fresh side to Carol." Her character will "relinquish part of the control" and acknowledge that she needs "help" and "support" in the follow-up: "You get to see a different side of Carol, one where she has to learn to give up some power and admit that she makes errors and requires support and assistance. This new phase for her has just begun." As Larson puts it, Carol Danvers' "new phase" need to address some of the issues her character faced in Captain Marvel. She now has more depth, which should dispel critics' complaints that she wasn't "a particularly identifiable personality" in Captain Marvel. Many critics compared Captain Marvel to Wonder Woman, with The Wall Street Journal opining that Brie Larson's heroine missed Gal Gadot's character's "unforced warmth, combined with strength, and bursts of joy." The Marvels will "get into some additional depths" of Larson's character, revealing that Carol is not someone who "makes the right decision all the time," she previously remarked in another interview. Hopefully, emphasizing these flaws will give Marvel a new level of relatability. Iman Vellani, Larson's co-star in The Marvels, backed up these assertions by telling reporters at D23 that the actress did "a tremendous job" of adding "a lot more emotional richness" to her role. Why Critics Should Get Excited About Captain Marvel The Marvels Signals A Major Shift For Carol Danvers - Disney still loves Carol Danvers, even though any criticism Captain Marvel may have faced. In addition, Larson has shown her ability to handle trolls. She will probably play a part in the sequel to address unfavorable reactions to her character's backstory.
