A lawsuit for $140 million (£115 million) has been filed by the relatives of a woman who was beheaded by a metal gate in a national park in front of her husband. In 2020, Esther Nakajjigo, 25, and her husband Ludovic Michaud were traveling through Utah's breathtaking Arches National Park when the unimaginable occurred. Esther's head was severed as the wind swung a metal gate around, slicing through the car's passenger door. He smelled blood with a hint of copper, turned to see what it was, and found his wife had been beheaded. The family claims that the US Park Service was negligent in failing to maintain the gates at the parks' entrances and exits, which contributed to the death of their loved one. Their lawyers said they were requesting $140 million (£115 million) in damages from the government taking into consideration Esther's earning potential in their opening arguments on Monday in Salt Lake City.Ludovic Michaud According to the family's lawsuit, rangers at the national park in Utah failed to secure the gate when the parks reopened in April 2020 after being closed due to Covid-19, which "turned a metal pipe into a spear that went straight through the side of a car, decapitating and killing Esther Nakajjigo." On Monday, when representing Nakajjigo's family, attorney Randi McGinn revealed the tragedy in graphic detail and urged the family to leave. Government lawyers have not contested that park employees are at blame; rather, they have contested how much the family should be given as compensation. Contrary to the victim's family's assertions, he or she was destined to lead a non-profit organization and eventually earn hundreds of thousands or perhaps millions of dollars annually. According to US attorneys, this claim is too speculative to serve as the foundation for damages. The plans she had were unknown to us with any degree of clarity, according to Assistant US Attorney Jeffrey Nelson. Nakajjigo, according to Ms. McGinn, is a well-known advocate for women's rights who overcame adversity to take the helm of a Ugandan reality television programme that empowers women by addressing subjects like healthcare and education. As a humanitarian superstar and recipient of funding for the opening of a hospital in Kampala, Uganda's capital, Nakajjigo went to the United States to pursue a fellowship at the Watson Institute for Emerging Leaders in Boulder, Colorado. This entire process is leading up to the $140 million in damages. Attorney for the government Nelson has stated that a suitable award would be $3.5 million (£2.9 million). He claimed that while he did not dispute Nakajjigo's outstanding character, it is difficult to predict the type of work she would have done in the future.
