Blame This Particular Apple Product If iOS 17 Is Disappointing You

In order to create the operating system for its top-secret mixed-reality headset, Apple is investing heavily. In fact, the ongoing work may prevent Apple from releasing exciting new features for iOS 17 and macOS 14 this year, among other platforms. According to a recent claim by journalist Mark Gurman, Apple has moved engineers from other projects to the operating system for the headset, known as xrOS. If you were hoping for significant software improvements for the upcoming iPhone, iPad, and Mac models, this might not be good news. Indeed, Gurman thinks "several new functionalities in iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 have also been lost" as a result of Apple's renewed attention on xrOS. Gurman has not specified which features are lacking, but it is apparent that we shouldn't anticipate anything particularly ground-breaking from this year's software updates. Meet iOS 17 | Apple - YouTube Thankfully, it doesn't appear like the damage will extend to the new gear, which Gurman calls "amazing." He predicts that USB-C and the Dynamic Island will be included in every iPhone 15 model. Meanwhile, titanium frames and haptic volume buttons will be added to the Pro variants. 2023 will be "the year of Apple's mixed-reality headgear and not much else," according to Gurman. That might not be so awful if you're enthused about the headset, but anyone looking forward to experimenting with new features in iOS and macOS might be a little let down. Gurman wasn't joking when he said "not much else." There won't be any significant updates to the Apple Watch, AirPods, HomePod, Apple TV, or the full iPad lineup, according to the reporter. There will be a few new Macs, including a new 15-inch MacBook Air, two new MacBook Pros, and an updated Mac Pro, but the latter appears to be destined for failure. Recent information from dependable tipper Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that the device's original January launch date had been pushed back to the spring. Gurman concurs with that assessment and claims in Power On that Apple would release the headset in the fall after introducing it to customers in the spring and assisting developers in adopting it at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June. Apple's mixed reality headset already has the makings of a genuinely successful product. Will it jeopardize Apple's other software platforms, though? Certainly not, we hope.
