Check out Airbus's stunning design for a space station!

The LOOP's modular construction makes it simple to add new functions and enhance existing ones. The crew will have far more room in the core module than they do in the crowded areas of the International Space Station (ISS) that is currently in orbit around the Earth. The core module has a diameter of 26 feet (about 8 meters). Three levels make up the Airbus design: the Centrifuge, the Science Deck, and the Habitation Deck. The Centrifuge is especially intriguing since it is designed to simulate gravity for the crew, easing the strain of weightlessness on the body. Airbus said the LOOP could temporarily accommodate up to eight people during situations like crew exchanges, although being designed for four astronauts. Notably, the LOOP was created to launch in its whole with the next-generation of launchers, including the Super Heavy and Starship ships (assuming SpaceX has mastered the flying system, that is), enabling easy and affordable deployment. According to a statement on its website, "The Airbus LOOP is designed to make long-term stays in Space comfortable and enjoyable for its inhabitants, while simultaneously supporting efficient and sustainable operations." "It builds on everything that has been learned over the years and fully exploits the potential of tomorrow's technologies to best support humanity's future in space, in low-Earth or lunar orbit, or on long-term missions to Mars," according to the statement. There are two off-Earth habitats for humans that are currently in use. The International Space Station (ISS), which has been in low-Earth orbit for the past 20 years, and China's new Tiangong station. But the ISS, which is scheduled to be decommissioned in 2031, is beginning to exhibit signs of aging. In order to build the next generation of space stations, NASA has turned to private companies. Texas-based Axiom Space and Washington-based Blue Origin are both forging forward with unique concepts that may be housing astronauts by the 2030s. Additionally, NASA is preparing to launch the Lunar Gateway into orbit.
