Comcast Is Terminating Its G4 Channel, Which Caters to Gamers

According to a report, Comcast is shutting down G4 after failing to restart the gaming channel last year.  The channel debuted on linear cable in 2002 and lasted until its dissolution in 2012 when the last studio programming was canceled. It was then replaced by the Esquire Network. In an internal memo acquired by Deadline before it was even sent, Dave Scott, the CEO of Comcast's Spectacor subsidiary, announced the channel's closure, citing low viewership and a failure to "produce sustainable financial returns." Several G4 employees claimed in their tweets that they first learned about the shutdown from press reports and tweets before getting Scott's word personally. This is undoubtedly not what Scott and his team had hoped for, thus they have made the extremely tough choice to stop operating G4 right away. The G4 network made a comeback in 2017 on a number of platforms, including Comcast/Xfinity, Verizon Fios, Cox, and Philo.  To appeal to fans who tuned onto the network 20 years ago, it debuted with programs including Attack of the Show, Xplay, and Ninja Warrior. Before returning to linear television, the firm had a multi-year deal with Twitch, where it occasionally hosted streams. The G4 team's employees will be contacted by the company's human resources department to "explore alternative options that may be available," Scott continues.
