Dell Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme: The Tablet That Won't Let You Down

(Image credit- NotebookCheck.com) The Dell Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme is designed for environments where other hardware might fail. It has undergone temperature testing up to 63C, 4ft (1.2m) drop testing, and IP-65-certified protection from ingress from dust and water. The Latitude 7230 sports a 12-inch touch display that is 1200 nits bright and can be seen in direct sunshine. It can be used as a tablet or as a laptop by attaching a keyboard. Dell offers a wide range of add-ons for this device, including extra batteries, supports and mounts, and a passive pen stylus. The starting price of this system, which has a Core i3 processor and 8GB of RAM, is approximately £2,473.82. However, once additional batteries, more storage, a better processor, more memory, and the necessary accessories are added, the price may end up being double that. Price and Availability

For basically similar PCs, Dell offers various model SKUs in various areas, which to this reviewer defies logic. The Latitude 7230 is a prime example of Dell's global price manipulations to further support this claim. Only a Core i5 model with 16GB of RAM is now available to US buyers for $3,013.57, but that device only has one battery. Europeans can choose between an i3, i5, or i7 processor, with prices starting at £2,473.82 in the UK. However, that price includes only 8GB of RAM and a single battery. The price increases by only £92.82 when upgrading to a Core i5, and by £277.68 when upgrading to a Core i7.

Design and USB Ports

Before we discuss the design's distinctively practical appearance, let's first discuss weight. Dell lists a weight of 1.4 kg for the tablet, although this figure presumes that both batteries are present. But when the optional keyboard was attached, the weight increased to 2.36kg, and we predict that when both batteries are added, the weight will be 2.52kg or 5.56 lbs. If you don't have strong wrists, that's a lot to handle, especially when you look at the distribution of the weight. The Dell Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme is a tablet at its core, thus all of its computing capabilities are housed there, giving it a definite top-heavy appearance. Additionally, if you wish to use the keyboard that way, it must be removed because it won't slide above a particular angle that would allow the keyboard to fit underneath the tablet. Performance

The terrific Intel Core i5-1240U CPU, which has just two performance cores but can still produce some outstanding performance outcomes, is on the plus side of this equation. The performance or efficiency cores can't all operate at their maximum clock speeds for very long with a base clock power of just 9W and a boosted requirement of 29W.
