Many Apple Watch Series 6 models recently faced an issue, causing the displays to go permanently blank. Fortunately, Apple announced that users could now get their devices fixed for free for that problem. Additionally, the company released the free repair programs late last week.
Fortunately, Apple notes that the issue only affects 40mm models of the Series 6 manufactured between April and September 2021. Thus, users having the eligible Watch and experiencing the problem must take it to an Apple or Apple Authorized Service Provider. In addition, for eligibility, owners need to check their Series 6’s serial number.
Here’s how an Apple Watch Series 6 owner can check their device’s eligibility -
- Open the Watch app on your phone
- Head to the My Watch tab and click on it
- Then, select General
- After that, open the About tab
- Scroll down to view the serial number
Once a user obtains the serial number, go to Apple’s website and input that number.

Moreover, to get a free service, users have various options. Thus, users can use either of the below methods to get the fix -
- Go to an Apple Store directly
- Visit an authorized third-party repair shop
- Contact Apple Support to mail the device for repair.

However, it is essential to note that the repair will not extend the standard warranty period of the Apple Watch Series 6. Although the program is available worldwide, users facing the issue while traveling might face some hurdles. That is, they must get their device serviced in the region or country they bought it from. Plus, if the device consists of damage that may “impair the service,” users might have to pay additional repair fees. Unfortunately, there is also a time limit for the free-fix program, like all good things. Apple warns users that the program will be valid for only two years for eligible Watch Series 6 models after the first retail sale.
