Despite being older than five years, third-party developers continue to release updates for the
Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Together with LineageOS 20, Android 13 delivers a new user interface and the most recent security patch upgrades, among other modifications.
Four and a half years after the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL debuted with Android 8.0 Oreo, LineageOS released Android 13 to the devices. As with previous Pixel smartphones, official software support for these devices stopped in 2020 with the release of Android 11. However, the performance of later Pixel smartphones, such as the Pixel 5 and Pixel 5a with their
Snapdragon 765G processors, is only marginally outperformed by the
Snapdragon 835 that powers the pair.

On the one hand,
LineageOS 20 gives the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL a revamped user interface and the majority of the features Google builds into the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) version of Android 13. On the other side, the OS also provides the duo with the most recent security updates, as their default Android 11 release currently uses antiquated security software that may be vulnerable to exploits. Google's website has information about every change made in Android 13 in great detail.
As usual, you must be willing to unlock the bootloaders of the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL in order to install
LineageOS 20 on them. All user data will also be erased as a result, although you should be able to recover any backups you made while installing LineageOS 20. Additionally, LineageOS has wiki articles and thorough installation guides for both devices. Please be aware that installing and using LineageOS 20 on either device does not need rooting. As a result, functions like Google Wallet ought to run smoothly.
