Where should your router be placed?
Directly next to your master socket or optical network terminal (ONT) and the system you want to connect to it is the only location for your router. Since it negates the purpose of Wi-Fi if you are within a cable's reach of the router itself, those two concepts are unfortunately frequently in opposition to one another. That's probably not the most ergonomic or cozy spot to work or play, either. Photo Credit: Chorus If you try to check your social media while using the restroom, it won't help you at all. The one thing you can't modify, though, is that it must be close to your master socket or ONT, thus it must be a cable's length away from that. However, there is much more you can do to locate the ideal location for your router inside that range.Observe obstacles
Although modern Wi-Fi signals may be more intelligent and capable of higher performance, they still rely on the same fundamental radio waves, therefore obstacles in the line of sight can significantly affect network performance. Place your router in a visible location; do not tuck it away in a drawer or behind a cabinet. As there is less likely to be interfering furniture and other obstructions that could hinder the signal, move it off the floor if you can. It will also help if you can position it so that it doesn't line up with any walls or columns in your house.Other appliances Dodge
While your router can't be moved precisely where you want it, other gadgets may. Move the microwave further away from your router, or at the very least, out of its line of sight, as this can be a major cause of wireless signal interruption. If you can, move them away from the Wi-Fi router and turn them off when not in use.Step closer
Being close to your router can be quite helpful, even though it isn't always convenient. Even while the 2.4GHz band has excellent range, faster 5GHz and, in particular, 6GHz frequencies are far more reliant on a nearby connection, so if you're close by, ordinary non-mesh routers will operate much better. Even though it won't always be simple to do that with a phone or laptop, you might be able to move a streaming stick or internet-connected security camera closer to the router than you had initially planned. If you want to complete a large download or play a crucial game on your mobile device, you can move closer to the router or leave it there while it finishes. Photo Credit: Hello TechAlso
Placement of the router is only one piece of the jigsaw in terms of accelerating your Wi-Fi connection. These methods to increase internet speed range from changing channels to adding repeaters.
