According to a news release, Keith Davis Jr., who was falsely charged with killing a security guard in 2015 and was prosecuted four times for the same crime, was freed from prison on Friday when the State Attorney of Maryland dropped the charges.
Ivan J. Bates, the state's attorney, stated: "I fully recognize the pain and anguish that repeated unsuccessful prosecutions have caused the victim's family, and I truly sympathize with them. Still, as State's Attorney, I have a duty to ensure justice for all, not just the victim but also the accused."

Details about the case
Keith Davis Jr. was charged with the murder of security guard Kevin Jones on June 7, 2015, at Baltimore's Pimlico Race Course. According to
NBC News, police said Davis committed the crime and that his gun matched the round shells discovered at the site.
However, according to the broadcaster, Davis insisted he was innocent from the beginning and claimed the cops had set him up. Police tracked Davis into an auto repair shop the morning of the murder while looking into an unrelated attempted robbery. They fired 44 rounds at him, striking him three times.
Davis was found guilty of the heist after surviving the shooting. Although he was acquitted, authorities eventually accused him of killing Jones, according to reports.

Ivan J. Bates, who was elected and inaugurated earlier this month, declared himself committed to making things right. He stated, "Today's dismissal is about the prosecutorial missteps of my predecessor in her pursuit of a conviction at all costs."
Moreover, Kelly Davis, Davis' wife, has spent the last seven years working for her husband's release. She even set up a website detailing the injustices associated with his case since she never believed her husband had pulled the trigger. She tweeted her response to the news on Friday and expressed her gratitude to the "overwhelming amount of community for your support."
On the other hand, according to reports, Jones' grandma Earlene Neals was upset and stunned by the news. She admitted that she hasn't heard from the cops.
Meanwhile, Bates told reporters that the case is still under investigation and he requested the police commissioner to ask detectives to take a "fresh look" at the case.
