Tired of lugging the umbrella around? You might be able to put that puppy back in its holster in a few months. It is anticipated that the La Nina weather pattern that plagued much of Victoria and NSW will abate in December, with typical summer weather returning early the following year. Praise be to Tim Bailey! In 2022, a large portion of Australia's east coast saw rainfall records, which led to severe floods that caused devastation in a number of towns. Although a La Nina water system was still present, the Bureau of Meteorology reported on Tuesday that the majority of its models predicted a transient occurrence that would weaken by December. La Nia is Expected to Ease in December, thus Saving the Summer The negative Ocean Dipole, the Madden-Julian Oscillation, and the positive Southern Annular Mode are all climate drivers that lead to wetter conditions, according to Weatherzone meteorologist Felix Levesque, who told the Sydney Morning Herald that they all appear likely to wane toward the end of the year. The outlet quoted him as saying, "It feels like the conclusion is in sight, but with that being said, I wouldn't be too surprised if the year ends with a bang." After three consecutive La Ninas, "El Nino is more likely to be the next climate driver, so we will return to a neutral phase for a while, and then El Nino could reappear during the next few seasons." La Nia is Expected to Ease in December, thus Saving the Summer With more than 286mm of rain falling this month, Sydney experienced its wettest October on record, bringing the city's record-breaking annual total of precipitation to 2387mm. Previously, 285mm of rain fell in October of 1977, which was the wettest month. This year, the city has had three record-breaking rainfall months. Major flooding continues along the Murray River in Victoria in Echuca, Torrumbarry, and Barha, while the Campaspe River is experiencing moderate flooding. The recent floods have affected tens of thousands of people in Victoria, and Premier Daniel Andrew announced that a Victorian Flood Recovery Management Plan would provide AU$150 million to help with clean-up activities.
