In order to avoid the requirement for significant camera bumps, LG Innotek has unveiled a revolutionary smartphone camera micro-component that can provide 4x–9x optical zoom without sacrificing quality. In order to utilize the module's zoom actuator, which can move in 1 m increments, the business is collaborating with Qualcomm to develop software for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The integration of super zoom lenses into camera modules appears to be the next major market for smartphone manufacturers after in-display fingerprint sensors and foldable designs. A new camera module from LG Innotek will reportedly do away with significant camera bumps when it is unveiled at CES 2023. This camera module, known as the "Optical Telephoto Zoom Module" or "Optical Zoom Camera," aims to incorporate pro DSLR and mirrorless camera features into smartphones. According to LG Innotek, the Optical Telephoto Zoom Module can optically zoom 4x–9x without losing quality. Additionally, optical image stabilization is built into the lens to lessen camera shake. According to the business, a camera bump is virtually unnecessary because to the folding optical (periscope) design. The ability to include both 4x and 9x lenses in a single module also eliminates the need to include several lenses for various zoom lengths. Which smartphones will come equipped with LG's new photo zoom module is currently unknown. However, there are a number of upcoming gadgets with hyper zoom lenses. In a previous article, we discussed the potential for the next iPhone 15 Pro Max to include a 12 MP periscope lens with a 6x optical zoom. Sony is also preparing an Xperia 1 V with an optical zoom that can reach 8.3x. Both businesses are focusing on developing software that is optimized for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 platform to function effectively with continuous optical zoom. According to LG, this will have an impact on lens correction, auto focus, auto exposure, auto white balance, and more.
