Mercedes-Benz is set to release its new E-Class vehicle in fall 2023, which will come with an updated version of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system. This latest version of MBUX will include the Chinese social media app, TikTok, as one of the apps that will be available on the system. This app will also be available to E-Class drivers in other markets, including the United States. Mercedes' interest in including TikTok in the MBUX system is due to the automaker's presence in the Chinese market. According to Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius, TikTok is “highly, highly relevant” in Asia. He notes that the average age of an S-Class owner in China is around or below 40 years old, making it an important market for the automaker. The new MBUX system will feature a "superscreen" that will span the entire dashboard of the E-Class. Drivers will be able to access the TikTok app and watch videos while the vehicle is parked. Passengers will also be able to view a portion of the screen located directly in front of them. However, the driver won't be able to watch TikTok videos being played on that screen due to a limited field of view. Additionally, a driver monitoring system will track where the driver is looking. Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV Mercedes is also making several other apps available in the E-Class infotainment system, such as Zoom video conferencing, Angry Birds, Vivaldi web browser, and Webex by Cisco. Mercedes has created a new software architecture that makes it easier to integrate third-party apps into the infotainment system, and the automaker has also launched a new app store accessed through the Mercedes me app. Mercedes and Google have announced a long-term partnership that will give the automaker control over its intellectual property and marketplace while offering drivers navigation, maps, and YouTube provided by the tech giant. Mercedes also revealed its own operating system called MB.OS, which is expected to debut in the automaker's next generation of vehicles in the middle of the decade. Mercedes has also expanded its partnership with lidar company Luminar.
