For the time being, the Madonna movie is no longer happening.
Variety claimed on Tuesday, citing a number of sources, that Universal Pictures' biography, which the famous pop diva, 64, co-wrote, produced, and directed, is not progressing in its development. Additionally, in the future, Madonna still plans to film a biopic of her life. But for the time being she wants to concentrate on her recently announced The Celebration Tour.

Furthermore, the Madonna movie project was reported to be in "active development" and Ozark Emmy winner Julia Garner was the "choice to play Madonna in the biopic," according to a source who told this to PEOPLE in June. In addition, the Uncut Gems actress Julia Fox, who was apparently in talks to play the singer's longtime friend Debi Mazar, would have joined Garner, 28, if she had been cast. Mazar is an actress most known for her roles in Empire Records, Goodfellas, and TV's Younger.
Moreover, back in October 2021, Madonna declared that she was nearly finished with the script. T
he mother of six at the time posted a string of Instagram photographs that showed her seated in front of her typed screenplay: "Grateful for the success of Madame (x emoji), that my script is almost finished, and for the support of my beautiful children!"

In addition, she hashtagged screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson, who is seen in the first photo's background. Wilson has appeared in a few of Madonna's social media posts about the script. Before that, it was revealed that Madonna, who most recently helmed the 2011 movie
W.E., will collaborate on the script with
Juno's Oscar-winning author Diablo Cody.

What's more
When the biopic was first announced in September 2020, Madonna released the following statement: "I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer — a human being, trying to make her way in this world. The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me."
She continued at the time, "It's essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision."
