Review of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5: The Foldable That's Perfect for Everyone

(Image credit- Digital Trends) A foldable flip phone should be as good as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 as Samsung's sales pitch is quite clear. The Flip 5 has all the same great features as the Flip from a year ago, plus a new processor, a hinge that allows the device to fold entirely flat when closed, and a cover screen that is much more useful.

Design 

Samsung refers to its hinge as the "Flex Hinge," and unlike the hinges on earlier Z Flips, the Flip 5 can fold entirely flat when it is closed, so there is no longer a distracting gap. In addition to being more aesthetically beautiful, it makes the Flip 5 slightly slimmer than Flip 4 when closed, dropping from 17.1mm to just 15.1mm. Although a 2mm thickness difference may not seem significant, it actually makes the phone seem somewhat more complete and makes the Z Flip feel more portable than before.

Display

The Z Flip 5's cover screen is 3.4 inches in size and is a Super AMOLED panel. It offers a 60Hz refresh rate, 720 x 748 resolution, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. In terms of specs, it is inferior to the Razr Plus cover screen's 1056 x 1066 resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. Additionally, your clock face is displayed at the top of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 cover screen. You can select from six different face categories, including Featured, Gallery, Informative, Graphical, Simple, and Colors. Cameras

The camera setup on the Flip 5 will be readily recognizable if you previously used a Galaxy Z Flip 4. A 12MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilization is included with the Flip 5. Along with a 10MP selfie camera on the primary display, there is a 12MP ultrawide camera with a 123-degree field of view. In other words, it is essentially the same camera technology as the Z Flip from the previous year.

Performance and Software

The Galaxy Z Flip 5's "Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy" CPU, along with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage, gives it the same performance as the Galaxy S23 family from earlier this year. That results in amazing performance on the Z Flip 5 as would be expected. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 comes pre-installed with Android 13 and Samsung's exclusive One UI 5.1.1 user interface. You'll feel right at home using the Flip 5 if you've recently used a Samsung phone. For better or worse, One UI remains One UI, and little has changed in this instance.

Battery Life

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 boasts a 3,700 mAh battery to power it through the day, just like the Galaxy Z Flip 4 managed the year before. That leads to a rather dim battery life, exactly like last year. If you wish to use the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 to recharge your smartwatch, wireless earbuds, or another phone, it has 25W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging capabilities.
