Review of the Sony XR X90K: an inexpensive 4K TV that works well with the PS5

A step-up series in Sony's LCD TV collection, the XR X90K sits just below the company's X95K models. The X95K series uses mini-LED backlighting, whereas the X90K features a full-array LED backlight, which is a significant distinction between the two lines. The 65-inch X90K series TV we examined produced images with outstanding brightness despite this disparity, and the full-array backlight of the set's set produced intense blacks with good shadow depth and relatively minimal backlight "blooming." The overall performance of the X90K is excellent for the price and should please even picky viewers. The firm's X90J series, which is now included in our ranking of the top 4K TVs, has been updated into the X90K series. Many features from that line are included in X90K sets, including Sony's XR Triluminos Pro screen, which works with its Contrast Booster XR and Cognitive Processor XR capabilities to provide HDR images with strong contrast and a wide color spectrum. Although the XR90K series TVs lack the X-Wide Angle function available in the premium XR95K line that enhances off-axis performance, this shouldn't be a problem as long as you watch within a 30-degree viewing angle (about equivalent to the width of an average sofa). With its independent tweeters on the top left and right sides of the TV, the X90 Acoustic K's Multi-Audio function produces above-average sound quality, with dependably clear conversation and even spatial effects while listening to Dolby Atmos soundtracks. Also Read: Sony 1000XM2 WIRELESS NOISE CANCELING HEADPHONES Using a separate soundbar system will result in far higher audio quality, but the X90 built-in K speakers will suffice while you decide whether to make that purchase. For streaming and setup, the X90K series employs the Google TV interface. It may be voice-operated using either the built-in microphone on the TV or the one on the Sony remote control. The majority of the top streaming services are offered, and Google users may log in with their account information to access additional features like accessing Google Photos libraries. Additionally, there is an ATSC 3.0 tuner for US consumers, which enables the TV to receive 4K digital TV broadcasts with Dolby Atmos audio. Sony XR X90K

The multi-position stand that can be raised to make room for a soundbar is the standout feature of Sony's fundamental design for the X90K series. The set's tiny remote control has a cluttered layout, making it challenging to identify the buttons in the dark. The on-screen menus are simple to use and access, but anyone who want to save time setting up new technology may find it difficult to cope with the abundance of visual options available. The X90K series TVs are a wonderful choice for gaming because they have two HDMI 2.1 ports and support 4K/120Hz, VRR, and ALLM. They are also Perfect for PlayStation 5, a Sony initiative that optimizes the image when a PS5 console is attached by turning on both Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode. The X90K series offers excellent value, particularly now that 2022 is almost at an end and discounts are available for all screen sizes. While Sony's entry-level A85K series lacks the X90local-dimming K's backlight, the premium X95K series costs twice as much. The X90K probably provides the best value in the context of Sony's entire TV lineup.
