Samsung didn't develop the clamshell foldable, but the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 does all required for the company to maintain its position as the leader in the field.
Samsung's mid-year Unpacked event met all of our expectations. New
Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, two smartwatches in the form of the
Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, and two foldable phones in the form of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 were all released.
Both of the new foldables appear to be copies of their respective predecessors at first glance, with the Z Flip 4 featuring a recognisable two-tone clamshell design, a dual rear camera, and an exterior cover display. What then is new?

Iterative refinement appears to be the name of the game for the Flip 4 and Fold 4, but that's especially true for the Flip. It seems and functions virtually exactly like its predecessor at first glance.
However, Samsung has been eager to emphasise the impact of customer input and how that determined what aspects of the Z Flip formula the business focused on in optimising 2021's still-compelling Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3.
The
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 may have the same appearance and feel as its predecessor, but it has a few minor upgrades that show Samsung is willing to take suggestions into account.
Based on the improvements and additions its successor offers, current Z Flip 3 customers shouldn't feel left behind. The Z Flip 4 appears to be the best foldable for the money for anyone else wishing to upgrade to a modern foldable, even with the minor year-over-year price increase in some markets.

But Samsung has given the Flip 5 (or whatever it ends up being called) lots of leeway. Further developments in areas like larger camera hardware, higher resolution displays, dust resistance, and faster charging would be wonderful.
This time around, Samsung has also decided to provide a greater storage option, allowing you up to half a terabyte of capacity, which wasn't an option with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 in 2021.
As with the Z Flip 3, customers can select unique frame and back colour combinations for their Z Flip 4 Bespoke Edition in specific markets. Users can choose from 75 different combinations that are available on Samsung.com and at Samsung's Experience Stores. Regardless of the configuration you choose, Bespoke Edition machines come with 256GB of storage and are priced accordingly.
