Unlike Apple, Android users do not receive updates at the same time. It is determined by individual manufacturers. For example, Samsung's Android 13 update was released two weeks ago, nearly two months after Google released it for Pixel devices.
The Galaxy S22 series, which includes the Galaxy S22+ and Ultra, is the first to receive the update. The second wave of updates is scheduled for November and will include updates for Samsung's last two foldable generations, as well as the Galaxy S21, Galaxy Note 20, and Galaxy S20 series of smartphones. Samsung tablet users will also receive the Android 13 update, with the Galaxy Tab S8 and Tab S7 series being the first to receive it.
The list of devices receiving updates was announced to Korean Samsung users via a push notification. It's worth noting that these are references to Korean devices first, with the US frequently following suit shortly after.
Samsung's software, which includes Android 13, is known as One UI 5. It has all of the same features as Android 13, including more color palette options, a new privacy dashboard, and improved support for different screen sizes, particularly tablets. The update also includes a slew of Samsung-exclusive features such as Routines, custom call backgrounds, and widget-stacking similar to iOS 16. Even Bixby will get a Text Call feature next year, which will allow you to answer the phone by typing in text. Furthermore, the Maintenance Mode allows you to conceal your user data when sending your Samsung device in for repair.
Although two months isn't a long time to wait for Android 13 on Samsung devices, you may still hear some complaints. Android has a long history of software update fragmentation, and longtime users, including myself, continue to complain. However, because Android 13 is relatively minor in comparison to previous versions, this update arrived relatively quickly.
