Tesla Model Y shuts down unexpectedly, trapping owner inside for hours

Despite being fully charged, a Tesla owner said that his Model Y ordered him to pull over when it abruptly shut down, trapping him inside for hours. Five days prior to the event, the EV was purchased. British YouTuber Tom Exton posted that despite being fully charged and having only been on the road for around 15 minutes, his five-day-old Tesla instructed him to pull over. In his interview with Business Insider, Exton claimed that "all power to the automobile was gone" within a short period of time. He attempted to evacuate the car using the emergency manual override latch because Tesla doors require power to open or close, but it was unsuccessful because it somehow smashed the driver's window. The result was that the driver spent hours being confined inside the car. The YouTuber vented his frustrations on Twitter, complaining that it took six hours to collect the vehicle while he had to wait more than two hours for help. He was abandoned inside in the very dead of night, with temps below zero and a dead phone battery.

According to reports, Exton was provided with a hotel room for the night after waiting more than two hours on the road, but he was not provided with a courtesy car while his car was being fixed. "Just glad (my gf) and the dogs aren't here. In the middle of nowhere, at -3°. Waiting for AA has taken two hours so far. Exton manages the 242,000-subscriber TGE TV YouTube channel. His collection of vehicles—mostly sports cars—centers on his writing. The fact that Exton had such a large following meant that his tweets were viewed by his 34,000+ followers, which led other Tesla owners to previously share similar experiences.
