The two surviving roommates of Idaho students finally breaks silence

For the first time since the savage stabbing deaths of four University of Idaho students in November, the two surviving roommates who were at home during the atrocious attacks—which are still under investigation—have spoken out.

What did the surviving roommates say?

At the memorial service held on Friday in Post Falls, Idaho, a pastor read letters written by Dylan Mortensen and Bethany Funke, the two roommates who, according to the police, most likely slept through the murders of Xana Kernodle, 20, Madison Mogen, 21, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, and Ethan Chapin, 20, Kernodle's boyfriend who was spending the night with her. According to a video from the memorial obtained by ABC News, Mortensen wrote: "My life was greatly impacted to have known these four beautiful people, by people who changed my life in so many ways and made me so happy." Funke wrote: "Maddie, Kaylee, Xana, and Ethan were truly all one of a kind. They all lit up any room they walked into and were gifts to this world. I wish every day that I could give them all one last hug and say how much I loved them." In addition, they referred to the couple, Chapin and Kernodle, as the "perfect pair" and their relationship as "loving." Mortensen also added, "I know somewhere Xana and Ethan are together keeping each other company watching us, and telling us it's okay."

What's more

Meanwhile, no suspects have been identified or detained at this time in the investigation. Additionally, investigators think the murder weapon was a fixed-blade knife, but it has not yet been found. Moreover, police have stated that the two surviving roommates, who they have stated are not suspects, most likely slept during the attacks. The killings happened on the second and third floors of the off-campus apartment while Funke and Mortensen were on the ground floor. In addition, authorities think the murders happened between three and four in the morning. And a 911 call was made reporting an unconscious person at 11:58 a.m., after additional friends of the surviving roommates arrived at the house that morning. On the other hand, the Moscow Police Department continues to believe that this was a "targeted" attack, despite a string of contradictory comments to the contrary. However, they remain unaware of who the target was. Lastly, authorities have also established that there was a sixth person on the lease of the house, but they don't think that individual was there when the murders took place. Anyone with information on the killings is asked to contact the Moscow Police Department at (208) 883-7180 or [email protected].
