According to media reports, Twitter's whole Brussels office has been shut down. This raises questions about the company's ability to adhere to impending content moderation standards set by the European Union (EU), which are meant to control major tech firms. The resignations of Julia Mozer and Dario La Nasa, who were in charge of Twitter's digital strategy in Europe, were first reported by The Financial Times last week. Hundreds of employees have fired following Elon Musk's takeover a month ago, yet the two were successful. However, based on a recent piece from The Guardian, it is unclear if Mozer and La Nasa were fired or quit on their own accord in reaction to Musk's request that they put in "very intense" hours or face termination. twitter Additionally, there was no word on whether Twitter was leaving its office in the capital of Europe, a key location for international digital governance. In the initial round of layoffs, Twitter let away almost half of its 7,500 employees, dissolving entire divisions including human rights, machine learning, and algorithmic ethics. One among the hundreds of people who lost their employment was Stephen Turner, the director of the Brussels office. After six years of employment with Twitter, he announced his retirement from the firm on November 14. He claimed that building the office in Brussels and expanding their exemplary staff has been an amazing trip. Some have questioned if the company can uphold the new EU laws in light of the dissolution of the company's workforce in Brussels. This measure tries to restrict hate speech and lessen the sway of powerful tech firms. Senior executives have reaffirmed Twitter's ability to comply with critical EU legislation affecting big digital enterprises, despite recent departures from the Brussels headquarters. The commission's findings that Twitter and other digital companies delayed longer looking into allegations of hate speech led to the statement, according to The Guardian. In 2016, the largest social media companies and the EU executive came to an agreement on a code of conduct, with the businesses committing to assess the majority of hate speech reports within 24 hours.
