Plans for electric vehicle charging stations were approved for all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico on Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Transportation. According to Reuters, the ideas include 75,000 miles of roadways.   "We have approved plans for all 50 States, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia to help ensure that Americans in every part of the country — from the largest cities to the most rural communities — can be positioned to unlock the savings and benefits of electric vehicles," Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in a statement. US Transportation Department As part of the bipartisan infrastructure agreement earlier this year, the Biden administration gave $5 billion to the states to pay for EV chargers along interstate roads over a five-year period. States submitted their recommendations for the deployment of EV infrastructure to the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation under the plan, known as the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program. With access to more than $1.5 billion in funding, states are now authorised to develop a network of EV charging stations along designated alternative fuel corridors on the national highway system. States have not yet disclosed specific charger locations, and it is unknown how many charging stations the cash will support. According to representatives of the Transportation Department, states should put stations every 50 miles and make sure that each one is a mile or less from an interstate route. US Transportation Department By 2030, the White House hopes to have a national network of 500,000 EV charging stations after investing around $135 billion in their creation and development. The recently passed Inflation Reduction Act contains tax credits that will encourage people to purchase EVs. Despite an increase in EV sales in recent years, the nation's main source of greenhouse gas emissions is the transportation sector. One of the main impediments to EV adoption across the nation is the dearth of accessible charging stations. After China and Europe, the U.S. is the third-largest EV market in the world.
