Withings Body Scan Connected Health Station: Is It Worth the Investment?

Withings has launched a new smart scale called Body Scan Connected Health Station which offers an array of comprehensive body analysis tools. It analyses your segmented body composition, runs a six-lead ECG, measures your nerve activity and monitors your vascular age. It also uses Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) to monitor the sweat levels in your feet to look for signs of neuropathy. Although the smart scale costs around $479, it is still a better option for those who want to take their health seriously, compared to other eye-wateringly expensive gadgets. The Body Scan was announced at the beginning of 2022, but the regulatory hurdles delayed its launch in Europe, and the price increased to $300. The scale looks like someone glued Withings’ cheaper Body Comp scale to its own weighted base and has a solid grip. The setup process is easy, you need to open its Health Mate app, give it your WiFi password and wait for the software update to take place. Once the weight loss goal is set, the scale will give suggestions on how to improve your lifestyle. The display of the Withings Body Scan is easy to read, especially when users don't have their glasses on in the morning. Fonts are clear, trend lines are chunky and cleanly differentiated from the background. Health Mate is Withings' secret weapon in the health-tech wars, with its clean UI and depth of data. The card layout on its home screen is easy to digest, and it is only when the user presses into each sub menu that they can see the information in more precise detail. Although there has not been enough time to prove definitively whether the analysis is wrong, the segmented body composition seems spot on. It is nice to see the healthy and unhealthy parts of the body, as this makes it easy to understand and sobering to think about. This is more convenient than AAA batteries as you do not need to buy additional batteries on top of the already expensive smart scale. Withings’ new Health+ coaching system will offer suggestions about how you can improve your health. The data provided by the Body Scan may not be taken very seriously by a physician, but it can still offer valuable insights and data for anyone who wants to take their health seriously.
