Zoom Introduces Zoom Clips: A New Asynchronous Tool

Zoom Clips, which is now in public beta, has a dedicated content library where users can manage, share, rename, look for, download, or delete clips. Clips can record both a user's screen and webcam feed, with or without a virtual background, and can be accessed from the desktop Zoom app, the Zoom website, the Windows system tray and the Mac menu bar. Once a clip is made with Clips, users can give it a title, description, and tags, cut out parts they don't want, and send the recording to someone else via email from Zoom's web portal. From the same portal, they can decide who can see the clip (e.g., anyone with the link or only people in an organization) and read comments and data like the number of views and the number of people who finished watching it. Zoom's Zoom Team Chat already had a video tool that could be used without being there: video chat. But Clips looks like a better solution, and it's a straight answer to platforms like Weet, Loom, and Bubbles. (Another important difference is that only people in the Team Chat channel can share video messages.) "With our new asynchronous video feature, you can quickly show important information to your team, add a personal touch to your collaboration, or just share a detailed project update without having to join a live meeting." Zoom has grown its number of goods and strategic partnerships a lot over the past year as it tries to reposition itself in the face of more competition and slower growth. At the same time, it is trying to cut costs. Earlier this year, it announced that 15% of its staff would be laid off.

Zoom Collaboration With AI

In May, Zoom announced that it would work with AI company Anthropic to add Claude, Anthropic's chatbot, to Zoom's apps and services. And after adding email and calendar tools to compete with Slack and Calendly, as well as features for workplace teamwork to compete with Slack and Calendly, Zoom bought the employee communications platform Workvivo from Ireland. This was its first purchase since buying the customer service software startup Solvvy. Zoom has also put a lot of effort into AI technologies, such as generative AI, but hasn't always thought through the effects. Some critics said that the formulas that Zoom's sales assistant tool, Zoom IQ for Sales, uses to figure out how people feel about something are fundamentally wrong. Others, on the other hand, don't like how the company collects customer information to train Zoom's creative AI features. But it looks like its investments are paying off. In its most recent earnings report, Zoom beat expectations, posting a net income of $15.4 million on revenue of $1.11 billion, up from $1.07 billion a year earlier.
