According to explosive allegations made by FBI Special Agent Steve Friend in a whistleblower complaint submitted late Wednesday to the Department of Justice inspector general.
A politicised Washington, FBI field officer allegedly cooked the books to exaggerate the threat of domestic terrorism and used a “overzealous” January 6 investigation to harass conservative Americans and violate their constitutional rights.
After protesting to his managers about the violations, Friend, 37, a respected 12-year FBI veteran and member of the SWAT squad, was suspended on Monday, stripped of his pistol and badge, and led out of the FBI field office in Daytona Beach, Florida.
He was suspended without pay last month after refusing to take part in SWAT raids that, in his opinion, went against FBI policy and involved the use of excessive force against suspects who were charged with petty offences on January 6.
The father of two young children and an American hero has destroyed his “dream career” because he could not continue to participate in what he believes to be the unfair persecution of conservative Americans.
-ADVERTISEMENT- When expressing his conscientious objection to taking part in a raid on a J6 suspect in the Jacksonville, Florida, area on August 24, he said to his superiors, “I have an oath to preserve the Constitution.” I wish to be recognised as a conscientious objector because I have a moral issue.
Friend, who did not cast a ballot for Donald Trump in the 2020 election, claimed that he twice informed his immediate boss that he thought the raid and the investigation leading up to it violated FBI policy as well as the subject’s rights under the Eighth Amendment’s ban on cruel and unusual punishment and the Sixth Amendment’s right to a fair trial.
