Cartoon Network is practically being terminated by Warner Bros. Discovery

Cartoon Network will likely be completely destroyed and reduced to a shell of its former self as a result of CEO David Zaslav's most recent organizational restructuring, in addition to making Warner Bros. Discovery a less diverse environment overall. For understandable reasons, news of Warner Bros. Discovery's decision earlier this week to terminate 82 employees and cut 43 unfilled positions from its Television division made headlines. Warner Bros. Television CEO Channing Dungey recently suggested in an internal memo that the company's intention to combine Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios may have far-reaching effects. Cartoon-Network Sam Register will continue to lead Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, Warner Bros. Animation, and Cartoon Network Studios as part of the organization's "new simplified structure," according to Dungey's memo.  However, the fact that the latter two animation studios would now collaborate on "development and primary production teams" is not good news for Cartoon Network, a company that has historically produced more unique IPs like Craig of the Creek, Victor and Valentino, and Summer Camp Island. Zaslav has probably reduced some of Warner Bros. Discovery's budget by withdrawing Batgirl, axing planned projects like J.J. Abrams' unpublished Demimonde series, canceling shows like Raised by Wolves, and pulling Batgirl.  Cartoon-Network The merger of Warner Bros. Animation with Cartoon Network Studios is, in theory, another cost-cutting maneuver that, ideally, won't negatively affect either company's capacity to create content. Realistically speaking, it's difficult to see how two distinct production branches that previously had their own budgets could continue to produce at the same levels after being forced to share resources in this manner. Craig of the Creek on Cartoon Network and its spinoff Jessica's Big Little World had their season episode orders reduced by 50% earlier this month. Despite the fact that both programs are still airing, the way in which they're being reduced in scope feels indicative of future changes. Warner Bros.  Discovery most likely wants to retain the HBO name around on whatever platform HBO Max and Discovery Plus are about to become, just as it likely wants to keep the Cartoon Network brand alive.
