Ferrari's Vision Gran Turismo Is Like Le Mans Hypercar Wishes

Since Mercedes launched the Vision Gran Turismo programme back in 2013, around 30 automakers have made a contribution. One notable name, some would even say the most significant, was absent from the list. Ferrari finally presented a no-limits idea over the weekend, and it will appear in Gran Turismo 7 later this month. Midway through the year, according to Flavio Manzoni, design director at Maranello, work on the Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo began. Since then, a lot has changed in the Prancing Horse universe. The brand has revived its supercar lineup with the 296 GTB and GTS and returned to top-tier sports car racing with a new Le Mans Hypercar, the 499P. With comparable light signatures in the front and back, Ferrari's Vision Gran Turismo plainly takes design cues from the 499P. But almost everything in between is special. You get the impression that if Ferrari ever released a production version of the 499P, it would resemble this a little bit more. This prototype will be powered by the same twin-turbo V6 found in the 296 series, along with three electric motors (as opposed to the Le Mans challenger's one). In total, Ferrari estimates that the hybrid drive system will produce 1,350 horsepower. Manufacturers prefer to claim that ideas influence designs with manufacturing intent in the future. However, when Ferrari says something, people usually sit up and pay attention. Similar comments were made by Manzoni to GTPlanet regarding its Vision Gran Turismo vehicle: “The idea was to create something that looks like a contradiction but it is not,” he continued. “We wanted to build something precise and sharp, but also organic. This contradiction makes something really special. It makes a new language and vocabulary that can inspire us in future years.” [caption id="attachment_67039" align="aligncenter" width="1200"]Ferrari's Vision Gran Turismo Image: Ferrari[/caption] “We wanted a kind of seamless effect between the inner and outer surfaces, to create an organic object where art and science merge together,” Manzoni explained.
