Virtual phone numbers are now available through the Firefox Relay service, which lets you conceal your email address and reduce spam. It's a straightforward but
effective concept: before being routed to your phone, calls and texts received at your "false" phone number are checked for spam (using manual or automatic filtering).
This is a set-it-and-forget-it service for the majority of individuals (though an online dashboard gives you extra controls). Your phone receives incoming calls and messages that make it through Firefox Relay's screening in the same way that other calls and texts do. But nobody ever knows what your actual number is.
You get 50 call minutes and 75 text messages each month with Firefox Relay. Although it's not much, it's adequate to handle valid calls from websites or enterprises. Remember that this is a tool to lessen spam and protect your privacy rather than a mobile service.
You should be aware that Firefox Relay only allows you to select one phone number. Once chosen, this number cannot be altered.
FireFox Relay costs $5 per month with the phone masking option, but if you choose the $48 yearly package, you can save $1 per month. Firefox Relay for email, which enables you create fake email addresses and blocks spam, is also included in this price tier.
