France's Mistral AI makes its AI model free for everyone

Mistral, a French AI startup announced its first generative AI model to take on its US equivalents like ChatGPT, Meta AI, etc. The small-sized AI model has been made using 7 billion tokens and it’s totally free to use without restrictions, the company announced in a statement on Wednesday.
The AI model is being tested by four companies for multiple applications including chatbot, customer service, marketing, as reported by Mensch. The open source model is proficient in English and coding.

Mistral is a team of 18 employees and the start-up was founded this year by three researchers. The two of them were Meta employees while one of them is a former DeepMind employee.
“Our ambition is to become the leading supporter of the open generative AI community, and bring open models to state-of-the-art performance,” wrote Mistral’s team in a blog post accompanying the model’s release. “Mistral 7B’s performance demonstrates what small models can do with enough conviction. This is the result of three months of intense work, in which we assembled the Mistral AI team, rebuilt a top-performance MLops stack, and designed a most sophisticated data processing pipeline, from scratch.”

‘’We have training methods that make us more efficient and two times less expensive to implement,’’ Mistral AI CEO Arthur Mensch said in an interview with Bloomberg. The start-up raised € 105 million ($110 million) in its primary funding round concluded in June.
