Google is rolling out Version 107 of its Chrome browser which adds a range of under-the-hood additions and makes several critical tweaks to help protect you on the internet. Additionally, because of the 14 separate security updates contained in Chrome 107, it is advisable to download the update as soon as it’s available to you.
Furthermore, the most crucial one revolves around a zero-day vulnerability termed CVE-2022-3723. It's a Type of Confusion bug impacting Chrome’s V8 JavaScript engine. As it’s defined by cybersecurity startup Avertium, the flaw allows bad actors to “trick” the browser into running malware and making users think it’s authentic data.
Avertium claims that while Chrome V8 engine attacks are uncommon, they are among the most destructive. And it looks like this is the third time Google patched a Type Confusion bug this year - one occurred back in March and the other in April.
As for the rest of the security patch, things aren't as severe. You see fixes for data validation and for browser extensions. But considering there are billions of Chrome users, there are a lot of avenues for bad actors to use. So, update the browser.
What's more
The remainder of the update is primarily concerned with Chrome's long-term viability. In addition, partially supporting HEVC (High Efficient Video Coding) is now available in the browser. HEVC, also referred to as H.265, is a codec that more effectively compresses data to shorten download times. It appears increasingly frequently on electronic devices. With this update, Chrome joins Microsoft Edge and Safari as the only other significant web browsers that support HEVC.

Moreover, to improve their use, video conferencing tools are also getting a few changes. When using screen sharing, users can now move between tabs by pressing a button that has been added by the tool's developers. It basically functions as a hotkey to spare you from having to sift through numerous tabs. Additionally, Chrome 107 will notify you if you share the tab from which you are doing a video conference. In doing so, a "hall of mirrors" effect develops, as stated in the patch notes.
Other reports assert that the upgrade contains other features, but we were unable to locate them. According to sources, Chrome now has the ability to import passwords from other browsers or external password managers. Additionally, it appears that Chrome 107's media picker for Android has been upgraded.
Availability
By selecting "About Google Chrome" from the browser menu, you may download the update and have it installed instantly. Google still has a lot of work ahead of it despite the update's abundance of security fixes. According to recent statistics, Chrome has had 300 new security flaws found only this year. There might be another high-severity Type Confusion bug there that hasn't been found yet.
