Latest WhatsApp Update Makes Your Phone Calls More Secure

WhatsApp is introducing a new security feature to its iOS and Android mobile apps. This feature will prevent malicious actors from accessing your IP address. WhatsApp claims that "most calling products" make use of a peer-to-peer connection that is made directly between two individuals. Although this enables "faster data transfer and better call quality," data packets must be exchanged back and forth to maintain connectivity. Since participating devices must be aware of "each other's IP address." On the other hand, a malevolent actor with the necessary technical knowledge would be able to intercept one of these packets. And get private data about their victim, such as their “broad geographical location or internet provider.” WhatsApp is using a protected IP Address in conversations. This is a feature that routes phone conversations you place on the service through corporate servers to solve this problem. This will guarantee that your IP address and everyone else's will be hidden from any possible cybercriminals. Calls will, of course, continue to be encrypted end-to-end. Specialized Privacy Protection By WhatsApp

Whether it's even feasible for someone to get an IP address over a phone call is a topic of discussion on the internet. Most people say, "No, it's not," but Ocean Telecom, a communications business based in the UK, asserts that it is feasible if the call is made using VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). Which is the connection type used by WhatsApp. Through a unique method known as "packet sniffing," a cybercriminal may be able to intercept a data packet holding private information. However, as we previously stated, that calls for a certain level of technological know-how. This is not a feature that everyone will utilize, nor is it something that anybody can accomplish. There is a debate. Call quality will decrease when you activate this function because you won't be making a direct connection. It won't be as transparent as it would be in a peer-to-peer setting. The email WhatsApp provided us with explanations that the feature that protects IP addresses during calls is only available to their "most privacy-conscious users." Who choose to have the option of having calls routed through the servers. Most users find that WhatsApp's default security level is sufficient. As soon as the patch appears on your phone, keep an eye out for it. You may find instructions on the official Help Centre website of the platform on how to enable this tool. It is located in the Settings menu of the app's Advanced section.
