The social media business claims that since the platform and the service provider are different, choosing which Mastodon service provider to start with can be complicated. But it's this decision that sets Mastodon apart from other social media sites. Because the network of Mastodon is decentralized, no single organization or central body is in charge of it all. Instead, Mastodon consists of numerous independent servers that can communicate with one another and are each managed by a different person or organization.
