According to several newspapers, the 3.8-magnitude earthquake that many inhabitants were awakened by at 11.41 p.m. on May 28 occurred before midnight. People from Sunbury to Hobart flocked to social media to share their earthquake experiences. Similar accounts of how the earthquake disrupted people's daily lives followed. The Sunbury area, 36 kilometers northwest of Melbourne's city center, served as the earthquake's epicenter. Fortunately, no casualties or substantial damages have yet to be reported, according to the Victoria SES. Nevertheless, Melbourne's citizens were startled by the unexpected awakening in the middle of the night, and social media sites rapidly turned into a hub for people to share their tales and sentiments of astonishment. Even the terrifying moment when a frightened cat ran downstairs to seek safety from the disturbing tremors was caught on home surveillance footage. As the sun dawned, Geosciences Australia received an extraordinary number of reports—over 21,000!—that were submitted. There were reports from a number of Melbourne suburbs, as well as from other parts of Victoria and Hobart in the south.
