Several astronomers were notified by NASA's Lucy Centaur mission as they searched the universe for any possibly dangerous asteroids that may be passing near the planet.

The discovery, which sent out alerts to everyone and was initially believed to be the closest asteroid flyby of 2022, has since been disproved. Astronomers find it challenging to distinguish an asteroid from objects from earlier trips due to the growing problem of space debris, which is becoming a hazard for the entire planet.
It took astronomers a day to realize the asteroid passing by the Earth is the NASA Lucy Mission, widely recognized as the space rock that would approach the planet most closely in 2022, according to CNET.
Astronomers had previously given the then-unknown space object the designation 2022 UQ1, and after careful and thorough observation, they were able to determine that it was the NASA spacecraft.
The threat posed by the Lucy spacecraft, which has been circling the earth for more than a year, was first believed to be an asteroid.
