The 2022 Rolls-Royce Black Badge Ghost Has Its Own Vibe

Rolls-Royce is a brand that immediately conjures up images of wealth and excess, as well as amazing exclusivity and opulence. The current state of the world makes spending half a million dollars on such a luxury car seem a little daunting, but that's hardly a concern for someone who can buy a Rolls-Royce. So, rather than trying to figure out whether or not a 2022 Black Badge Ghost is "worth it," I'd like to investigate how a Rolls-Royce affects people's perceptions of you, as well as your perceptions of others. Life with a Rolls-Royce is a vibe, as they say. Also Read: 2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre electric “super coupe” to have 260 miles range Let's start with the technicalities. The 2022 Black Badge Ghost is powered by a 6.7-liter twin-turbo V12 (don't mix those up or you'll never be able to use the Whispers app). Rolls would have only described its power as "adequate" in the past, but in a nod to modern tastes, we now know this engine produces 573 hp and 627 lb-ft, with the latter spiking practically just off idle at 1,600 rpm. The engine is connected with a GPS-controlled transmission that shifts gears based not only on how you're driving, but also on where you're driving, which no other carmaker does. The disconnect extends to the Ghost's steering, which is almost comically overboosted and so lacking in feedback and communication that it makes an Autopia look like a Porsche 911. Having said that, the sedan's power delivery is almost EV-like in its fluidity and quietness. For instance, the power closing doors are a little stiff to shut manually, but it's a level of luxury that you won't find in most other vehicles. The doors are also easier or more handy to use than a standard door, but they are not always easier to use. People look at you in a different manner when you are at the wheel of a Rolls-Royce. Half the time, I look like an ageing Dinosaur Jr. roadie, but when I'm driving the Ghost, people look at me as if I'm a long-lost Rothchild heir. People treat you better, and they do their best to stay out of your way.
