Go Games, a British developer, has just announced the TRDR Pocket, a follow-up to its modestly popular gaming handheld, though this is far from a simple specs upgrade.
The TRDR Series II is outfitted with an AI-driven personality capable of human-like conversation that "extends beyond the weather and identifying songs," according to the company. Indeed, Go Games claims that this is "the world's most sophisticated AI-powered handheld games console."
This is how it works: The TRDR Series II is available in three variants, each with its distinct personality (and color schemes to match.) You'll be able to choose between Scarlet, Julia, and Tony, though the company hasn't revealed much about each personality aside from name and gender.
Go Games, on the other hand, has stated that each personality will serve as an "indispensable everyday assistant" that allows for meaningful conversation, implying that the console could be used as a mental health tool.
Aside from your new AI pal, this is also a portable gaming console with respectable specs. The Android-powered device has a bright 1080p display, an Helio P60 processor, 4GB of RAM, a 12-hour battery life, and approximately 200GB of internal storage. It also provides cloud storage with end-to-end encryption.
The exterior is a Gameboy-esque design with six buttons, a D-pad, and a control stick, just like the previous iteration. These handhelds can be ordered now for $400. A personality test available on the company's website determines which of the three AIs will be the best fit.
