The second-generation Qualcomm flagship mobile processor has been unveiled. As early as the end of 2022, numerous flagship Android handsets will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. To make it simpler to discern between its highest-performing chip and its mid-to-budget tiers, Qualcomm unveiled a new naming scheme last year. The series with the largest spec sheet is the Snapdragon 8 series. This year, it is exhibiting an upgraded Hexagon processor with a bigger tensor accelerator for up to 4.35 times greater AI performance, according to Qualcomm. The precision AI format INT4 is supported for the first time on this chip by Nvidia. In terms of gaming, the 8 Gen 2 has an updated Adreno GPU that reportedly performs 25% quicker and uses 40% less power thanks to the Kryo CPU. It offers more efficient processing for many languages and support for unique wake words. The 8 Gen 2 has built-in support for dynamic head tracking and spatial audio, which will be crucial in the coming year as wireless earbuds that enhance sound have become the standard companion device for smartphones. Additionally, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 already supports the Wi-Fi 7 wireless standard as router manufacturers begin to provide hardware that supports it. (Mediatek recently announced support for Wi-Fi 7 on their newest mobile chip, so it's obviously in style.) Qualcomm is attempting to provide AI processing that is similar to native AI, like Google's Tensor. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2's claims of better camera quality are where it is most obvious. Qualcomm's first Cognitive ISP is launched using the Snapdragon Sight platform. In order to take a stunning photo, Snapdragon Sight enables the camera to distinguish between variations in sky, clothing, hair, and facial features. Additionally, the Samsung ISOCELL HP3, a 200-MP sensor optimised for this particular chip, and picture sensors that support Sony's new HDR format are supported by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
