Currently, almost every field uses Artificial intelligence (AI), including those in the arts, engineering, medicine, and education. But what if politics used
artificial intelligence (AI) someday? Will
AI robots one day hold elected office in our governments? Currently making headlines is a new political party whose goal is to raise public understanding of how technology affects people's lives.
Lars - the AI Chatbot Leader
The leader of the party is an
AI chatbot by the name of Leader Lars, as first reported by Analytics Insight. The group is working to secure parliamentary representation to achieve its objectives of increasing public awareness of AI's societal implications.
Furthermore, it's important to note that although Leader Lars won't appear on any ballots, its human members are dedicated to implementing its AI-derived platform. In addition, the creator of the party claims that the goal is to integrate this into the current political system.
Moreover, Leader Lars received specific training on the policies developed by Danish fringe parties after 1970, claims Asker Staunaes, the party's founder and an artist-researcher at the organization MindFuture. According to him, the party seeks to represent the 20% of current Danish voters whose parties are not represented in parliament.
On another note, a "jointly-owned internet and IT sector in the government" and implementing a universal basic income are two of the AI chatbot's objectives.
In a statement, Staunaes added, "Artificial intelligence in the form of machine learning has already absorbed so much human input that we can claim that in one way, everybody participates in these models through the data that they have provided to the Internet."
Leaders Lars is a computer program, however, so it cannot run for office. Instead, the human party members may act as a substitute for the chatbot. Staunaes also pointed out that Lars, the party's leader, is merely its public face.
The Synthetic Party
The Synthetic Party still needs to collect 20,000 signatures, so they have a long road ahead of them, according to sources. Besides, of the 20,000 signatures needed, they collected just 11 thus far.
Additionally, the party wants to add a new Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) to the United Nations' list of objectives that all nations must accomplish by 2030 to address issues that includes poverty, inequality, and climate change.
The proposed SDG by the Synthetic Party, "Life with Artificials," focuses on preparing people to coexist with machines and examines how AI and humans interact. Through this concept, governments may hold AI responsible for prejudices, other societal effects, and how AI impacts human life.
