How did it all begin?

The story claimed to be about the contents of a laptop brought to the tabloid by a computer repair shop in Delaware. Following the publication of the story, Twitter prohibited anyone from posting on twitter or sending it via direct message, labelling it "hacked material." According to Twitter's former head of trust and safety, the company was unable to confirm the Washington Post's story on Paul Eric Hunter's laptop. "Everything in it turned like a hack and leak," Yoel Roth said this week in an interview. It has seldom, if ever, been a stated goal of Twitter to verify news stories.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, first hinted at the release on Friday afternoon, enticing exclusive details about "what really happened." The Twitter Files is labelled after a whistleblower's leaked Facebook documents. The emails, according to Taibbi, show Twitter's "extraordinary steps" to censor the story. The most damning quote in the Files comes from Twitter communications chief Brandon Borrman, who was present during the decision-making process. In an email, he inquired, "Can we honestly claim that this is part of the policy?" The story was so ridiculous that it seemed impossible. It appeared that it could not have come from anything other than a hack... or could it? There is no proof that Twitter employees acted at Democrats' request or lobbied the White House in any way. The New York Post's notifications about Musk's actions on Friday night were restrained. The release appears to have irritated outlets far more invested in the Hunter Biden story than Gizmodo. The title suggests that Twitter censors things at random. "Twitter acting alone to suppress free speech is not really a violation of the First Amendment." After months of speculation, it's still unclear what the real stakes are in the Hunter Biden controversy. The story appears to revolve around alleged corrupt dealings by the Biden family. Hunter Biden's laptop is the major scandal of the decade; it is a convenient political ruse. No matter how far down we go, the story of the wreck is what matters now.
