Lenovo Reveals Rollable Laptop Prototype

In a video released today to start off its Tech World 2022 event, Lenovo teased a few prototype products that take advantage of an OLED panel's capacity to roll up like a piece of paper. One of these devices is an intriguing laptop that can transform to provide twice as much screen space on demand. Previously, laptops were only really useful for traveling or working in remote locations without a fixed workstation because they were less capable and powerful than desktop computers. However, today, providing you're connected to a larger external display, a laptop will more than suffice as your primary PC, unless you're a gamer or working on complicated 3D animations. Hence, some people want the choice to easily connect a larger display everywhere they go, and this Lenovo prototype seems to provide it. Besides, Lenovo is no stranger to experimenting with folding OLED screen technology. Its ThinkPad X1 Fold was an unusual tablet/laptop hybrid with a screen that could fold in half and a floating wireless keyboard. And although it was a brilliant reimagining of what a laptop could be, the main justification for the screen's folding was to reduce the size of the device when not in use. Therefore, in contrast, this new prototype makes better use of OLEDs.

Details about the Lenovo rollable laptop prototype

It has a permanent tactile keyboard on the bottom and an opening screen, just like a typical laptop, except instead of folding in half, the display uses a sliding mechanism that increases its height as the OLED's unseen portion steadily unfolds from the bottom. Additionally, in the brief video demonstration, the screen appears to double in size, giving users extra workspace without growing the laptop's overall size. The extra sliding mechanism clearly adds weight to the laptop, which looks top-heavy and ready to tumble back without a pair of hands on the keyboard to steady it when you fully extend the screen. In addition, some people noted that a screen that is bigger than 16:9 and extends horizontally may be even more useful and well-balanced. Also, Read- Lenovo Shows Off Vertically Rollable Phone Lenovo did not confirm whether or not this rollable laptop prototype will ever advance past the concept stage. But, given that we are currently exploring the special advantages of OLED screens, this notion seems to be closer to striking the mark than anything else.
