Not everyone enjoys playing video games on a console like the Xbox. Of course, Microsoft wants to sell it to gamers and people who want to feel like kids at heart. In addition to being pricey, the addition of extra accessories like controllers makes it even more expensive. These make it understandable why console manufacturers occasionally make a loss rather than a profit, as was the case with the Redmond behemoth in this instance. For each console sold to customers, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer claims that the company loses up to $200. The Microsoft gaming president talked about how the business adjusts to price changes in the face of the recession. Regardless of whether it's an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S, he continued, they lose between $100 and $200 on each Xbox console. In a WSJ interview, Spencer predicted that Microsoft would sell additional games and accessories to help offset its sales losses. In addition to selling accessories to make up for the losses, Microsoft is hoping that its Xbox Game Pass will lessen the impact on its business. Before the year is out, the company is counting on a large number of gamers to continue using the service. In this way, however small, the $15 monthly subscription will be a great way to make up for the loss. Xbox plans to make changes to the business model, in the long run, to see what improvements can be made to increase console sales.
