Alec Baldwin has been officially charged with involuntary manslaughter for the shooting of
Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Details about the case
In October 2021, mother-of-one Halyna Hutchins was killed on the
Rust set when Alec Baldwin shot a prop gun, also injuring Joel Souza, the director of the movie, in the process. 42-year-old Halyna was then evacuated to the hospital from the New Mexico set but she later passed away from her wounds.
Therefore, Baldwin and the film's armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed are each facing two counts of involuntary manslaughter, which carries a maximum jail sentence of 18 months, in connection with Ms. Hutchins' death on the Santa Fe County set of the movie. Baldwin has subsequently promised to fight the charges against him which his attorney terms as a "terrible miscarriage of justice."

Furthermore, back in January, Hutchins' family welcomed the accusations, claiming that Hollywood star Alec Baldwin had a "conscious disregard for human life."
On another note, according to the district attorney's office, assistant director David Halls entered into a plea deal for the allegation of careless use of a deadly weapon. And regarding the non-fatal shooting of
Rust director Joel Souza, no charges will be brought.

More details
The judgment was made less than three months after the District Attorney's office got the full report on the terrible occurrence from the Sheriff's Office.
On October 21, while Baldwin was aiming a gun at cinematographer Halyna, it exploded, killing her and injuring the director, Joel. In addition, the crew had been in a tiny chapel during the preparation for filming a scene.

The faux weapon "could not be made to fire without a pull of the trigger," according to the FBI report on the incident. On the other hand, Baldwin has consistently denied doing so. He claimed that using a procedure known as "fanning," a bullet could be fired without the trigger being pushed.
