Microsoft DirectStorage May Cause Your Frame Rate To Drop!

Forspoken on PC marked the official launch of Microsoft's DirectStorage technology, though you might not want to utilize it. According to some early tests, DirectStorage lowers your average frame rate by up to 10%. Forspoken's DirectStorage was evaluated by the German YouTube channel PC Games Hardware. The channel did the in-game benchmark using an Intel Core i9-12900K and an Nvidia RTX 4090 from a PCIe 4.0 SSD, PCIe 3.0 SSD, and a SATA SSD. The average frame rate (fps) at 4K for the SATA SSD, which doesn't support DirectStorage, was 83.2. The PCIe drives decreased to about 75 fps, which is about 10% slower. With the PCIe 4.0 SSD launching the game's benchmark in just over two seconds, PC Games Hardware demonstrated the technology's strength. In contrast, it took the SATA SSD about three and a half seconds to boot. Even though it may not seem like a significant difference, as PC Games Hardware notes, those extra seconds might build up as the game loads new areas of the world and its specific open-world activities. Your GPU suffers as a result of the trade-off. Even if a 10% loss only affects eight game frames, there is still nothing to be alarmed about. It's crucial to keep in mind that PC Games Hardware also examined Forspoken on the RTX 4090, the industry's most potent GPU. Performance issues may be more severe for graphics cards with lower power.
